Disney Drops Teaser Trailer for Zootopia 2, Coming to Theaters November 2025

Disney fans, rejoice — the long-awaited sequel to one of the studio’s most beloved animated films is finally on the horizon. Zootopia 2 has officially been announced with a brand-new teaser trailer released today, nearly nine years after the original Zootopia captivated audiences worldwide. The sequel is scheduled for theatrical release on November 26, 2025, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

A Return to the Animal Kingdom

The teaser marks the triumphant return of Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, the unlikely crime-fighting duo from the original film. Once again voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman, the characters are thrust into a new mystery that threatens the peace of their diverse metropolis. This time, their investigation leads them into uncharted territory — both geographically and emotionally — as they work to protect the harmony of Zootopia.

The sequel introduces a new villain, Gary De’Snake, described as a cunning and charismatic figure who disrupts the city’s delicate balance. He is voiced by Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan, whose recent career resurgence has made him one of Hollywood’s most in-demand talents.

“This new story dives deeper into Zootopia’s world,” said co-director Josie Trinidad in a statement. “We’re exploring new boroughs, new species, and new challenges — all while preserving the humor, heart, and social commentary that made the first film so impactful.”

A Teaser Full of Energy

The teaser trailer, which runs just over a minute, offers quick glimpses of Zootopia’s vibrant neighborhoods — from the icy tundra to the desert-themed Sahara Square — along with brief scenes of Judy and Nick navigating new dangers and colorful characters. Visually dazzling, the animation reflects Disney’s continued advancements in digital storytelling.

In a fun twist, the trailer also features a brand-new in-universe track titled “ZUTU”, performed by fictional lemming techno group LEMEEENS. The song adds a pulse-pounding beat to the teaser and hints at the film’s commitment to expanding Zootopia’s musical and cultural flair.

The Legacy of Zootopia

Released in 2016, Zootopia became a critical and commercial juggernaut, grossing over $1 billion worldwide and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Praised for its heartfelt story, dazzling animation, and its allegorical treatment of prejudice and inclusion, the film remains a fan favorite nearly a decade later.

The franchise has since expanded to include short-form content such as the Zootopia+ series on Disney+, which explored side stories within the world of the original film. However, fans have long called for a true sequel — and now, that call is being answered.

A New Chapter Begins

Disney Animation President Jennifer Lee has expressed enthusiasm for the sequel, noting that the studio has taken its time to develop a story that honors the original while expanding its universe in exciting new ways.

“Our goal is to tell a story that feels timely, entertaining, and true to the spirit of the original,” said Lee. “The world of Zootopia is rich with possibilities, and we’re thrilled to share this next chapter with audiences around the globe.”

With anticipation building, Zootopia 2 promises to deliver a thrilling, heartwarming adventure that will resonate with longtime fans and new audiences alike.
