Netflix has released the first trailer (below) for its highly anticipated second season of the goth-horror-comedy hit, which stars Jenna Ortega as the morbidly inclined Wednesday Addams.
The streamer has also announced the second season premiere dates, as the show will be released in two batches. The first part will be released Aug. 6 and the second will be released Sept. 3.
In the trailer, Wednesday returns for a second year at Nevermore Academy, a private school for outcasts. Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) notes her daughter has never wanted to return to school before, and Wednesday deadpans back, “It’s like returning to the scene of a crime — I already know where the bodies are buried.” Later in the trailer, she notes, “I do my best work in the dark.”

The trailer also shows Wednesday reuniting with her spirited roommate Enid (Emma Myers) and shows glimpses of the rest of the Addams clan, including Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester. The trailer also introduces Steve Buscemi as the school’s new principal, Barry Dort, and plenty of creepy dolls.
The production has added series regulars Billie Piper (Scoop), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things) and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime). Also, there are many familiar names signed on for guest star roles: Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Joanna Lumley (Fool Me Once), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Frances O’Connor (The Missing), Haley Joel Osment (The Kominsky Method), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries) and Joonas Suotamo. Lloyd also played Uncle Fester in the 1991 Addams Family film.

The second season was filmed in Ireland — a change from the first season, which was primarily shot in Romania.
The first season of Wednesday — from creator/showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar along with executive producer and director Tim Burton — was a smash for the streamer in 2022. Wednesday became the most-viewed English language series in the studio’s history, with 252 million views, and spent 20 weeks in the streamer’s global Top 10 (Squid Game remains Netflix’s biggest hit internationally). The series also catapulted Ortega to a new level of stardom, which was further fueled by her role in Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice last fall.
