Take a look at the movies and TV shows that are hitting the streaming service this month.

This May, Netflix has an exciting lineup of films and series, including Vince Vaughn and Susan Sarandon starring in Nonnas, a heartwarming comedy directed by Stephen Chbosky, known for Dear Evan Hansen and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Nonnas tells the inspiring true story of Joe Scaravella, a man who decides to change his life by opening an Italian restaurant staffed by Italian grandmothers, or “nonnas,” as the chefs. Based on Scaravella’s real-life eatery, Enoteca Maria, and his 2015 cookbook Nonna’s House, the film features an all-star cast including Linda Cardellini, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Joe Manganiello, and Campbell Scott. Other highlights include the latest volume of Love, Death & Robots, a slick limited series starring Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, the final season of Netflix’s longest-running adult animated show, another installment in the popular Fear Street franchise, and a live-stream of Netflix’s highly anticipated global pop culture and fan event. Whether you’re in the mood for comedy, animation, or thrills, May’s releases offer something for everyone.
On May 15, Netflix drops the highly anticipated fourth volume of its adult animated anthology Love, Death & Robots. Created by Deadpool filmmaker Tim Miller and executive produced by David Fincher, the series delves into a wide range of genres—comedy, horror, and sci-fi—while exploring themes of love, death, and robots. This volume features 10 short episodes, including contributions from Fincher (“Can’t Stop”), Miller (“Golgotha” and “The Screaming of the Tyrannosaur”), Jennifer Yuh Nelson (“Spider Rose”), Patrick Osborne (“Smart Appliances, Stupid Owners” and “The Other Large Thing”), and Robert Valley (“400 Boys”). Each volume has garnered increasing praise, with Volume 3 even achieving a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
On May 22, Sirens, a star-studded drama from Maid creator Molly Smith Metzler, arrives on Netflix. The limited series follows a woman searching for her younger sister, only to find her enmeshed in the world of a wealthy family. The series stars Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Kevin Bacon, and Glenn Howerton. Based on Metzler’s Juilliard-written play Elemeno Pea, Sirens marks the first project under her overall deal with Netflix following Maid’s success.
Then, on May 23, Netflix releases the eighth and final season of the animated hit Big Mouth. The Emmy-winning comedy, which explores the awkward and often embarrassing realities of adolescence, will cement its place as Netflix’s longest-running scripted series.
Also on May 23, Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest installment in the Fear Street franchise, debuts. Set in the 1980s and adapted from R.L. Stine’s 1992 novel The Prom Queen, this chilling addition stars India Fowler, Suzanna Son, and Chris Klein, and is directed by Matt Palmer. Following the success of the 2021 Fear Street trilogy, this latest entry is sure to thrill fans.
Netflix caps off the month with its global fan celebration, Tudum 2025: The Live Event, on May 31. The event, which will be live-streamed from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, offers exclusive reveals and news about Netflix’s upcoming content, including fan favorites like Stranger Things and Squid Game.
