The fan-favorite vigilante Moon Knight may be missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while longer. New speculation suggests that Marvel Studios has internally delayed the character’s return until 2028, following continued scheduling shakeups across the MCU’s Disney+ and theatrical slate. While this date has not been officially confirmed by the studio, the absence of any production movement has left fans worried — and frustrated.
A Promising Start… Then Silence
Starring Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector and his alternate identities — including Steven Grant and the brutal vigilante Jake Lockley — Moon Knight debuted on Disney+ in March 2022. The show was praised for its darker themes, psychological depth, and willingness to stray from the usual Marvel formula. Yet despite its critical and commercial success, the character has yet to return to screens in any form.
By 2023 and 2024, fans were still hopeful for a Season 2 or even a team-up appearance, particularly in rumored projects like Midnight Sons. But as of mid-2025, no official sequel or crossover has entered production, and Marvel has remained tight-lipped about Moon Knight’s future.
Jeremy Slater: “The Ball Is in Their Court”
Series creator Jeremy Slater recently revealed in an interview that he hasn’t spoken with Marvel in years regarding Moon Knight. “The ball is in Kevin Feige and Oscar Isaac’s court,” Slater said. He also confirmed that if Moon Knight does return, it will likely be under a new creative team, hinting that any sequel would not continue the same storytelling approach seen in the first season.
Oscar Isaac’s Status Unknown
As for Oscar Isaac, the actor has not officially confirmed whether he is signed on for further appearances. However, he has previously expressed interest in continuing the story if the creative direction is right. That said, Isaac is known for being selective with long-term franchise commitments — making the character’s future even more uncertain.
Why 2028?
The rumored 2028 timeline may be connected to broader MCU production delays. Multiple projects, including Avengers: Secret Wars, Blade, and other street-level or supernatural entries, have faced setbacks due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes and internal reshuffling at Marvel. It’s possible Moon Knight’s return is being strategically saved for post-Secret Wars events or a Phase 7 rebooted lineup.
Some insiders also speculate that Marvel may be quietly regrouping its supernatural roster — including Ghost Rider, Blade, and Moon Knight — for a larger crossover film or Disney+ special in the late 2020s.
Fans React
The delay has sparked mixed reactions. While some fans understand the complexity of the MCU’s long-term planning, others worry that Marvel is wasting the momentum and character development built during Moon Knight’s debut.
“Marvel has a goldmine in Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight. Waiting six years to use him again would be a huge misstep,” one Reddit user commented. “We want Midnight Sons, and we want it now.”
What’s Next?
At present, Marvel Studios has not confirmed any Moon Knight-related project in its Phase 5 or Phase 6 lineup. With projects like Daredevil: Born Again and Blade still in flux, it may be some time before Moon Knight resurfaces in the ever-expanding Marvel multiverse.
For now, fans can revisit Moon Knight (2022) on Disney+, and keep their crescent darts crossed for a proper return — even if it’s not until 2028.
