“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” just released a new teaser along with seven new production stills from the film. The teaser is stylized as an announcement of the historic trip that exposes the four of them to cosmic rays and grants them the superpowers they’re known for. You can watch the teaser below.

The new teaser is accompanied by the new photos from Entertainment Weekly. Below we see the entire team suited up for a space journey.
We know this shot and the first one must come before they get their powers since we get Ebon Moss-Bachrach sans any Thing CGI

The EW article sheds some light on other aspects of the film. For example, it confirms what many suspected, that the film is set in the 1960s, but the 1960s of another universe. Director Matt Shakman describes the style of the film as “where Kirby meets Kubrick,” i.e. comic book creator Jack Kirby and filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.

“We knew that we’d be on another Earth, so we had a chance to reinvent what the ’60s looked like,” Shakman said. “I was really interested in imagining the Fantastic Four being astronauts. Instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin going to the moon, what if it was Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben who were really the first to go into outer space, the first to push those boundaries?”

Shakman said that the “number one challenge” for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” was finding the right cast. “It wasn’t just a search for who was the best Ben and who was the best Johnny, but also who was the best family,” Shakman said. “Who was the best married couple? Who were the best siblings and honorary uncle? So it’s been very gratifying to see the incredible chemistry that the four of them have had since the beginning.”

One thing that might upset some fans is that Shakman denied any speculation that Doctor Doom would be premiering in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
“Doom’s a great character, but he takes up a lot of air,” Shakman said. “Other film adaptations have done both an origin story and Doom. We’re doing neither, and that allows us to look at them from a fresh perspective.”
