Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’ Animated Series Premieres to Rave Reviews, Season 2 Confirmed

Global — Netflix has officially released the first season of its highly anticipated Devil May Cry animated series, a reimagined take on Capcom’s iconic video game franchise. With stylish animation, gripping action, and a nostalgic soundtrack, the show has quickly captured the attention of fans and critics alike — and a second season is already in development.

A Fresh Take on a Fan-Favorite Franchise

Produced by Adi Shankar (Castlevania) and animated by South Korea’s renowned Studio Mir, the series follows a younger Dante in a stylized late-’90s setting as he takes on supernatural threats in a gritty, neon-lit world. Voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, this version of Dante is still finding his identity as a demon hunter while clashing with a mysterious new villain known as the White Rabbit.

The series departs from strict game canon, instead choosing to build an original story arc that complements the existing lore. Fans are also introduced to characters like Vergil, Lady (Mary Ann Arkham), and Vice President William Baines — the latter voiced by the late Kevin Conroy in one of his final roles.

A Soundtrack That Hits Hard

Adding to its nostalgic flair, Devil May Cry features “Rollin’” by Limp Bizkit as its high-energy opening theme. The soundtrack, crafted by synthwave duo Power Glove, includes remixed music from the original games blended with modern electronic tones.

Critical and Fan Response

The eight-episode series has earned a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its visual style, pacing, and bold storytelling. It debuted at #4 globally on Netflix’s top 10 chart, signaling strong viewership and fan interest.

“It’s everything you’d want from a Devil May Cry adaptation — stylish, brutal, and surprisingly emotional,” wrote one critic.

Season 2 on the Horizon

Given the strong reception, Netflix has already greenlit Season 2, with production reportedly underway. Showrunner Adi Shankar has hinted that the next season will dive deeper into the Dante–Vergil dynamic and further explore the origins of the demonic conflict.

Fans can stream the entire first season of Devil May Cry now on Netflix.
