Garret Dillahunt Shuts Down Green Arrow Rumors Ahead of HBO’s Lanterns Series

Garret Dillahunt Addresses Green Arrow Speculation

Actor Garret Dillahunt has officially shut down fan rumors suggesting he would portray Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) in HBO’s upcoming DC series Lanterns.

The speculation started when Dillahunt posted photos on Instagram wearing a green domino mask and sporting a goatee — a look closely resembling the classic Green Arrow design. Many fans believed the costume teased a surprise casting in the highly anticipated series.

However, Dillahunt quickly clarified that the images were from an old Halloween costume, stating:

“No no no! Me? I should be so lucky, but no. Just a Halloween costume from a few years back. I’m just a nerd, just a fan.”

James Gunn Also Confirms: No Green Arrow Casting

Adding further clarity, DC Studios co-head James Gunn responded directly to a fan question on social media about Dillahunt playing Green Arrow. His reply was a simple but decisive:

“Haha no.”

This firmly ended speculation that Green Arrow would be appearing in Lanterns at all — at least for now.

Garret Dillahunt’s Actual Role in Lanterns

Although Dillahunt won’t be suiting up as Oliver Queen, he is part of the Lanterns cast. He will portray William Macon, described as a “modern cowboy” — a conspiracy-minded and ruthless man who hides his ambition behind a charming exterior.

Lanterns follows Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they investigate a murder in rural Nebraska. Their search uncovers a mystery that will have major implications across the DC Universe.

The series is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s larger reboot of the DCU and is scheduled to premiere in early 2026 on HBO.

Conclusion

While fans may be disappointed that Green Arrow isn’t making his Lanterns debut, Garret Dillahunt’s new character promises to bring plenty of intrigue to the series. Lanterns is shaping up to be one of DC’s most anticipated new shows.

Stay tuned for more updates as production ramps up!
