Legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont may have just dropped some of the biggest MCU spoilers to date, offering fans a glimpse into what could be coming in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
During a Q&A session at the Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025, Claremont shared what he called “rumors,” but the depth of detail has fans speculating that he may have insider knowledge or access to working drafts of the multiverse-centric scripts.
Robert Downey Jr. as Both Hero and Villain?
Claremont revealed that Robert Downey Jr. is expected to return in multiple roles, not just as Tony Stark/Iron Man, but also as Doctor Doom, potentially from another universe. This aligns with reports that Doom will serve as the central antagonist in Avengers: Doomsday before making way for Kang’s multiversal chaos in Secret Wars.
Multiversal Variants for Chris Evans, Scarlet Witch & More
- Chris Evans is reportedly returning as Captain America, young Steve Rogers, and even the dark variant Captain Hydra.
- Elizabeth Olsen is said to reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff, this time fighting alongside the Avengers.
- Famke Janssen (Jean Grey) and Olivia Munn (Psylocke) are rumored to reappear, connecting the FOX-era X-Men to the MCU multiverse.
Claremont implied that these characters will play crucial roles in bridging the multiversal storylines.

In a notable shift from origin storytelling, Claremont said the Fantastic Four will be long-established by the time we meet them in Doomsday. The team will be treated as long-time defenders of Earth, having worked in secrecy or from another dimension, ready to enter the spotlight for Marvel’s cosmic battles.
