Gal Gadot and Matthias Schoenaerts Team Up for Niki Caro’s WWII Thriller Ruin

Gal Gadot and Matthias Schoenaerts are set to star in the upcoming World War II thriller Ruin, directed by Niki Caro, known for her work on Mulan and The Zookeeper’s Wife .

Set in post-war Germany, Ruin follows a recently released concentration camp prisoner (Gadot) who forms an unlikely alliance with a former German soldier (Schoenaerts) as they seek revenge on a Nazi SS death squad

The screenplay, written by Kaz and Ryan Firpo—who previously collaborated on Marvel’s Eternals—was featured on the 2017 Black List, highlighting the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood

Production is scheduled to begin in early 2026. Gadot will also serve as a producer through her company Pilot Wave Motion Pictures, alongside her husband Jaron Varsano, director Niki Caro, and Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures

This project marks a return to World War II narratives for Caro, who previously directed The Zookeeper’s Wife, a film centered on the rescue of Polish Jews during the Holocaust .

Gadot is currently filming The Runner for MGM Amazon and recently portrayed the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action Snow White. Schoenaerts is involved in several upcoming projects, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Old Guard 2, and The Way of the Wind .
