French President Emmanuel Macron said France could formally recognize a Palestinian state as early as June. In a recent interview, Macron emphasized the move would be based on principle, not political pressure.
“We need to move towards recognition… I’ll do it because at some point it will be right,” he told France 5 television, adding that such a step could also encourage Middle Eastern nations that support Palestine to recognize Israel in return.
While nearly 150 countries already recognize Palestinian statehood, key Western powers—including the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, and Japan—have yet to follow suit.
Macron also announced plans to co-host a conference with Saudi Arabia in June aimed at encouraging mutual recognition between several countries, potentially paving the way for broader diplomatic progress in the region.
