The Odyssey: Robert Pattinson’s Role in Christopher Nolan Epic Reportedly Revealed

Robert Pattinson in The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan

As Christopher Nolan’s historical thriller, The Odyssey, runs deep into production, more information is coming out about which characters the upcoming tentpole’s A-list cast will play. The latest report seemingly reveals who Robert Pattinson will portray in the epic action fantasy film.

According to the Italian magazine, Chi (via ComicBookMovie.com), Pattinson is set to portray Hermes in The Odyssey, which has been in principal photography since late February. In ancient Greek mythology, Hermes was a mischievous deity known as the messenger and herald of the ancient gods, typically guiding souls to the underworld. Hermes was also associated with many things, including thieves, travel, fertility, luck and animal husbandry.

Pattinson boarded The Odyssey last November, joining a star-studded cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron and John Leguizamo. Pattinson previously worked with Nolan on the 2020 sci-fi action thriller, Tenet, and partially inspired Nolan’s latest big-screen success, Oppenheimer. Pattinson is coming off his critically acclaimed sci-fi black comedy, Mickey 17.

While Matt Damon’s central character and the king of Ithaca, Odysseus, is the only confirmed character for The Odyssey, recent clues have emerged hinting at who others will portray in the Universal Pictures title. Set photos showing Holland seemingly allude to him playing Odysseus’ son Telemachus, while Zendaya’s outfit in other behind-the-scenes images suggests she’ll portray the Greek goddess Athena. Bernthal also boasted a very different look in photos from production, suggesting he will be a key character in the film. Production is expected to last several months, with cameras rolling in Morocco, Greece, Sicily and the U.K. The film is also being shot using advanced IMAX technology.
